How to choose a category

Two things usually decide it: how many people are travelling and how far. Everything else — standing cabin, enclosed lavatory, a flight attendant — starts to matter past the two or three hour mark and is barely noticed on a short hop.

A light jet carries four to six people on legs of up to about three hours: Mexico City to Monterrey, Guadalajara or Los Cabos. Amidsize jet adds a standing cabin, an enclosed lavatory and the range to reach the United States nonstop. Aheavy jet is what New York or Los Angeles needs with real luggage aboard. Above fourteen passengers, the provider must review a specific solution without promising a model or price before consulting an operator.

Passenger count, baggage and range are category references. Usable capacity is confirmed by weight and volume together with route, fuel and configuration; a five-seat proposal will not work for six people, however well the price fits.
